Inside SF Playground: A New Way for Startups to Be Discovered

Where the Community Discovers the Next Generation of Physical AI Startups

The startup ecosystem has no shortage of pitch events.

Founders present.
Investors listen.
The audience watches.

SF Playground is different.

Instead of relying on a small group of gatekeepers to decide which startups deserve attention, SF Playground lets the community surface the most promising companies first.

Builders, engineers, investors, and curious attendees come together in one room to explore early stage products across physical AI, meet the founders behind them, and help decide which startups earn the spotlight.

Our goal is simple:

Create a place where the next generation of AI and robotics startups can be discovered through real interaction, not just pitch decks.

Here is how it works.

How Startups Join SF Playground

Startup founders presenting

Startups can apply to showcase their product in two ways:

• Apply through the submission form on the SF Playground website
• Email the team directly at staff@sfplaygroundai.com

During the application process, founders share a few key details about their company:

Startup name

Founder names

Contact information

Pitch deck

Development stage (idea, prototype, or working product)

Funding stage

Whether they are part of an accelerator or incubator

Whether they already have customers, pilots, or LOIs

Whether they will be bringing a physical product to demonstrate

We welcome companies at all early stages, from ambitious prototypes to startups already shipping products.

The only real requirement is that founders are building something interesting in physical AI or adjacent emerging technologies.

The Showcase: Where the Community Decides

Startup demo booth

At each SF Playground event, selected startups are given space to showcase their product live.

This is not a traditional pitch session.

Instead, founders set up booth style demos where attendees can:

• Meet the team
• Try the product
• Ask questions
• Explore how the technology works

Every attendee receives three voting tokens at check in.

These tokens represent something like a mini investment.

As attendees walk the room and explore the different startups, they can place their tokens with the products they believe have the most potential.

It is a simple idea, but it creates a powerful dynamic.

The audience is no longer passive.

They become part of the discovery process.

Social Proof Before the Pitch

Startup pitch stage

At the end of the showcase, we tally the votes.

The three startups that receive the most tokens move forward to the next stage of the event.

This is where things get interesting.

Those founders are invited to the stage for a Shark Tank style pitch session in front of an investor panel and a room full of builders.

The community voting acts as social proof.

By the time founders reach the stage, the room already knows which products captured the most attention.

This makes the conversation deeper, more focused, and far more engaging.

The Investor Panel

Once the top three startups take the stage, they present their companies to an investor panel.

This part of the night is designed to feel less like a formal pitch competition and more like an open conversation about building great companies.

Investors will:

• Ask questions about the product and vision
• Provide feedback to the founders
• Share insights about the market
• Discuss what it would take to scale the company

In some cases, investors may decide to continue funding conversations after the event.

SF Playground actively supports these follow up conversations and introductions.

A Room Full of Builders

Startup networking event

One of the most important parts of SF Playground happens after the pitches.

Founders, investors, engineers, and operators stay to talk, exchange ideas, and build connections.

Many of the most interesting conversations happen during this time.

Sometimes founders meet future collaborators.

Sometimes investors discover companies earlier than they otherwise would have.

And sometimes entirely new ideas start forming in the room.

That is the magic of bringing builders together in person.

Why Physical AI Needs Spaces Like This

We are entering a new wave of innovation driven by physical AI.

Robotics, embodied intelligence, AI powered hardware, and real world automation are beginning to reshape industries.

Unlike pure software startups, these companies benefit enormously from hands on interaction.

Seeing a robot move, trying a prototype, or watching a system operate in real time creates a completely different understanding of the technology.

SF Playground was created to give these founders a place to show their work and gather real feedback.

Monthly Events

SF Playground events happen monthly, bringing together early stage startups and the people excited about the future of AI and robotics.

Each event features:

• Startup showcases
• Community voting
• Shark Tank style founder pitches
• Investor feedback
• Open networking with builders and operators

Every event becomes a small discovery engine for the ecosystem.

Join the Playground

Tech founders collaborating

There are two ways to participate.

If you are a founder building something exciting, showcase your startup for free and let the community discover your product.

If you are curious about the future of AI, robotics, and emerging technology, join the event and help vote on the startups you believe in.

Because sometimes the next great company doesn’t come from a pitch deck.

It comes from a room full of builders exploring ideas together.
